Gaining understanding of God’s word is progressive and the birth of Fairhaven Outpost Ministries is no exception to this fact.
Our story beings in fall of 2020. God led Justin and Alexis Tobias a long way in their short three
years of marriage to purchase their first home in Ellijay, Georgia. In their eyes they had accomplished
what they believed was the directive from heaven. They found their country home away from the City of
Atlanta and were finally in the will of God.
While they were getting settled, Justin began researching how to prepare their garden. As he tried to
track the sun on their property he realized, although beautiful, their new home had too much tree
coverage. The only area with sufficient sunlight was directly where their house stood. After Justin
contemplated placing a garden on their roof, he became discouraged and began to question whether his
family purchased their first home in God’s will or not.
He then recalled the journey God brought them through to make it to this point. Just two months into
their marriage in 2017 Justin was laid off. What followed was a spiritual revival that proved God had
bigger plans than Justin could have ever imagined. This revival spread throughout his household and
friends alike. Over the next year and a half God led Justin to study the bible more, begin bible study with
his friends, then create a podcast, and eventually establish his own media ministry. There was no way
God had led him to the country to leave him without fulfilling the purpose of moving. It was with this
renewed faith that he went to gain further understanding of what country living truly meant.
Through prayer, studying the bible, re-reading the book Country Living by Ellen G White, and
watching videos from various preachers and teachers presenting country living messages a word from
God rang through – country living involves more than just picking up your family and moving to a rural
area. Country living also requires observation of the health laws, growing your own food, and ministering
to the cities through outposts. These outposts can be accomplished in two ways. Either you open your
own home and take people in, or a larger outpost is formed as an organized ministry. Realizing his home
was insufficient of ministering as an outpost because they were not able to grow food, Justin returned to
God in prayer. It was revealed that God had indeed brought them to this home as lesson in understanding
the true meaning of country living and to show the need for an outpost center for the metro Atlanta area.
With this newfound understanding the search for property began.
As a first act in testing faith God led to an almost 500-acre property with an almost 5 million dollar
price tag with no funding. In response, Justin, and Alexis (who was eight-month pregnant) visited the
property. God’s vision was becoming clearer. God intended there to be a sanitarium with sufficient
kitchen space, places for workers to live, space for a media ministry, flowing water, space for garden,
fruit trees, and much more. It was a wonderful visit, but they were overwhelmed knowing this was not a task they could take on alone. Once again, they returned to God seeking guidance.
Over the next month, Justin had several conversations with various family members and friends about his new understanding of country living. As an answer to Justin and Alexis’ prayer, conviction spread, and it was decided to officially establish Fairhaven Outpost Ministries.
The founders of Fairhaven are progressively understanding what their mission is an organized body
but they will strive to do so under God’s guidance just as they began.
